Acorn specialise in all types, and method of slating, from natural slate to man made slates. The use of slate on roofs in Britain dates back to the roman period, there were many slate mines in Britain, from Cornwall right up to Scotland, and there are many different methods of laying slates.

Tiling

Acorn specialise in all types and method of roof tiling, it is believed that the first single lap clay roof tiles were formed from baked clay or earth around 2700 BC. The Romans were the first to make and use fired clay tiles in Britain, in 1212 AD King john issued building by-laws for London that required combustible roof coverings to be replaced with clay tiles.

Fully supported metal roofing

Acorn specialise in all types of traditional, modern and ornamental lead roofing & cladding, and are able to supply any type of purpose made lead work, for traditional, or modern applications, including hand crafted lead planters and hopper heads. The Romans and Norman’s first utilised lead as a building material, in pipes and roof coverings, because it is both stable and weatherproof, and its high resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

Single ply membranes

Acorn are approved contractors in the use of a number of different types of single ply membranes. Single ply membranes can be used on many different types of applications, such as flat or pitched roofs, on new or existing roofs, and can also be used as an overlay system.

Green roofs

Green roof systems are not a modern addition to the construction industry. In-fact, the first green roofs date back thousands of years, the most famous of all is the hanging gardens of Babylon which dates back 500 B.C.
